Career Trees are interactive maps representing career pathways in various industries in Snohomish County. They show you how to climb a career tree in ten industry clusters targeted as high-growth in Snohomish County and are designed as a tool to help guide you towards high-wage, high-skill careers.
Career Trees were developed in 2003 by partners who wanted to share lists of occupations for key industry clusters in Snohomish County. The lists were transformed into eye-catching, user-friendly posters that demonstrated how a person could climb career ladders, or Career Trees, in each industry. The posters were an immediate success and were used by students, teachers, job counselors, job seekers, and case managers across Snohomish County. Career Trees evolved into its online format in 2008 to meet the needs of people who prefer web-based tools.
The online and poster versions of Career Trees will be updated in early 2011 to reflect the most current industries and occupations in Snohomish County.
Career Trees uses the Holland Code Quiz to assess personality types and make career recommendations. According to John Holland, people can be loosely classified into different personality types. If a person and an environment (occupation) have the same or similar codes, then a person will likely be satisfied and persist in that environment. Visit this report for more information about Holland's theory and implications for academic advising and career counseling.
